Good afternoon, dear teachers and students. We come from Lanzhou Oriental Canada Secondary School Grade 11 class 2. We are honored to be here and introduce our LOCSS’s Canada Summer School trip.
As our classmates’ previously introduced, LOCSS is a place of interests, wisdom, and diversification. Our school maximally helps its students to achieve their dreams of studying aboard. Do whatever they can to open up our eyes and show us larger goals in life. Therefore, the first grade 10 students from LOCSS went to Canada last summer.
After a 12 hour flight, we finally arrived at the international airport of Vancouver. Mr.Zhang came with the official of District 42 of education, and had two coaches to pick us up. Maple Ridge 42 district would become our new school and home. There were not only students from LOCSS, but also students from around the world.
When we arrived at the Riverside center, our new family was coming to pick up their new children. In order to make us learn from each other and not to be too nervous, all the students were divided in groups of 2 per host family. Every host family was strictly tested by the ministry of education; they would provide us a comfortable living environment, and makes us three delicious meals a day. Also , they must drive us to school every morning and pick us up in the afternoon. If you live in an Indo-Canadian family, you will be provided Indian traditional food. Because Canada is a multicultural country, we made friends from all over the world. They were same friendly and enthusiastic. Until now, I still keep in touch with my Canadian family.
During our studying time, most of us needed to study English 10 to be ready for English 10 provincial exam. We met some friendly Canadian teachers there. They were humorous and kind. One of the female teachers even sent us ice cream to celebrate her wedding anniversary. Although we only had 18 days of class, we became friends with our new Canadian teachers, and deeply enjoyed the experience of the Canadian teaching method.
Meanwhile, besides studying, we got to go sightseeing around Vancouver. The day after we arrived in Canada, we joined the Canada’s day celebrations in central park of Maple ridge. After one week of school, we went to one of the biggest city park of North America- Stanley Park, and enjoyed the natural forest. We saw several different totem poles there, which were made hundreds of years ago by Canadian native people.
During our last week in Canada, we felt thrilled and excited on the Capilano Suspension Bridge, which is 100 long and 70 meters above the ground. We watched a great 4D movie “Fly over Canada” which gave us a time traveling experience. The beautiful royal garden for the Queen of Britain catched our eyes. We took a ship to Victoria, on Vancouver Island, and watched wonderful speeches inside the Parliament building. We also had fun in the blue warm salt water of the Spanish bay. Before that, we climbed Grouse Mountain to challenge our young bodies, and challenged our brains by receiving the great views on the top of the mountain. Then we visited two famous universities in Vancouver- university of British Columbia, and Simon Fraser University, and chatted with their students about the university life.
Our trip ended in a climax, allowing us to not forget last year and that wonderful summer. We studied hard, played harder; we trained ourselves in an unfamiliar country. Thanks for the trip; it firmed our dream of studying aboard. Although we already returned to our homeland, the new students would go to Canada and follow our steps. Thanks to the school for giving us this chance. Our trip is not ending, and I also want to say to the students who want to be one of us, you should join the LOCSS’s Canada summer school trip. Change starts here in LOCSS!
